ENGINEERED – SOLID PARQUET

A non-engineered solid parquet panel holds a sentimental attraction for all of us: it is, after all, the original way the panels were made. However, the changing seasons, combined with modern heating and air-conditioning systems, most notably radiant under-floor heating, subject wood floors to extreme changes in temperature and humidity. Non-engineered solid parquet panels can react badly to such variations, gapping and distorting. To avoid such problems, parquet panels should be fully engineered if practically possible. Element7’s expertise and reputation in this field is unrivalled.

In some cases, especially with the most intricate and complex panels, it is simply not possible to fabricate a fully engineered panel; a semi-engineered or solid panel is the only option. By definition, the patterns of these intricate and complex panels tend to mean that they are small-component parquet panels. This automatically reduces the potential for distortion as the latter is dependent on the size of the panel’s component parts.

Similarly, we will install solid herringbone and chevron floors, but only in sizes of up to 500mm in length, 100mm in width, 14mm in depth and always quarter sawn. Larger sizes are always fully engineered.

With our wide-plank wood floors, for example, solid wood is not an option; the individual planks are simply too large not to distort unless fully engineered using our “balanced and blocked” plank construction.

Whether it is grand parquet panels, classic herringbone, an opulent centrepiece or the finest of borders, commissioning Element7 is an informed choice.
