Full-grain leather floors
Leather floors not only offer the luxury of a totally natural floor covering, they also deliver an absolutely stunning and utterly inimitable look. Leather floors are elegant, always in fashion and durable. Completely versatile, they can blend luxuriously into a contemporary environment or significantly enhance the classic appeal of a residence more traditionally furnished with fine art and antiques. Better still, they get better with age, developing a saddle-worn patina, their constantly changing character only serving to confirm the quality of the full-grain leather. A good leather floor will last a lifetime.
When specifying a leather floor, however, you must look deeper than mere aesthetics. Has the correct part of the hide been used? Has the leather been correctly tanned? Should it be cowhide or oxhide? Is the leather bonded to a backing board or not? Is the backing board correctly engineered? Can the floors be used above underfloor heating? Should the leather be aniline-dyed or should a pigmented spray be used? Will the leather curl up at the edges?
