There are various building regulations governing the transmission of sound and impact noise in new build and refurbished buildings and many ways of dealing with walls, ceilings and floors to minimise the problem.

When impact sound and noise are transmitted through floors, the installation of wood flooring must be carried out as a floating floor. This installation technique involves glueing only the tongue and groove forming a single raft. Specified decibel-rated acoustic insulation lies between the raft and the sub-floor.

Element 7's precision-engineered wood flooring is ideal for this application, as it is dimensionally stable enough to be floated when installed.

Care and accuracy in the installation and fitting is also essential to properly fill gaps, thereby minimising the effect of, and/or eliminating contact with, extraneous transmission paths such as perimeter walls, columns, pipework, etc.
