Your choice of wood floor finish will affect both its appearance and method of maintenance. The many differing finishes available can be quite confusing. Potential contenders include, varnish, lacquer, wax, floor cream, paint and oil.

Element 7 is firmly in favour of natural oil finishes. The aesthetic appearance of an oiled wood floor is unrivalled as is the feel. The oil finish being in the wood means that you can still touch the wood, not a layer of plastic that is on top of the wood as is the case with a surface treatment.
Never having to ever sand the floor as part of its maintenance program has obvious benefits in terms of mess and floor downtime. Oiled floors are also environmentally sound and simple to maintain.

Maintenance and floorcare
Once again oiled wood floors are without doubt easier to maintain. Every two to three years the floor needs to be re-oiled; a maximum floor downtime of four hours not four days, as would be the case with sanding and re-varnishing.
